Ceramic coating your new car’s wheels: is it worth it?
Brake dust and road grime find your wheels on every drive. Here’s what a professional wheel coating can do, where it helps most, and which level of coverage makes sense for your car.

The short answer
Is ceramic coating worth it for new wheels?
For many new-car owners, yes. A professionally applied wheel coating makes routine cleaning easier and helps reduce how firmly brake dust and road grime cling to the coated finish. It is particularly useful if your wheels are intricate, your brakes create a lot of dust, or you want to preserve the look of the original finish.
The best time to coat a new wheel is usually early in ownership. It still needs inspection and preparation: even a brand-new vehicle can arrive with transport fallout, residues or contamination. Coating a clean finish now is often simpler than tackling months of baked-on deposits later.
Everyday value
What wheel ceramic coating actually helps with
Brake dust release
Brake dust still settles, but it tends to release more readily from a properly maintained coated surface during washing.
Easier routine washing
A coated wheel is less inclined to hold onto everyday grime, so regular cleaning generally takes less scrubbing.
Finish preservation
Early protection helps you maintain the appearance of clean painted, clear-coated or otherwise suitable wheel finishes.
Why it matters
Your wheels face a different kind of grime.
Wheels sit close to the brakes and road surface. They collect brake dust, iron-rich fallout, dirt, tar and wash residue more directly than most painted panels. Deposits left for too long can become stubborn, especially around spokes and inside barrels.
Our Bayswater workshop protects wheels for drivers across Perth who want a cleaner looking car with less effort between proper washes.

Our approach
Preparation matters, even on a new car.
Inspect
We check the wheel finish, existing contamination and accessible surfaces before deciding how best to prepare them.
Prepare
The wheels are thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated as required. A coating should never simply seal in brake dust or transport residue.
Coat and guide
We apply the coating to the agreed areas and explain how to wash the wheels without undermining the result.
Aftercare
How do you care for coated rims?
Wash them regularly, especially if brake dust builds up quickly. Use suitable car-care products and a soft wheel brush or wash mitt. Rinse thoroughly and dry when practical, particularly after washing with mineral-rich water.
Do not let heavy contamination sit for long periods, and avoid abrasive tools or harsh products unless your installer confirms they are suitable for the finish. The coating helps with cleaning; regular maintenance keeps that benefit useful.
A useful way to decide
If the wheel design is simple and you clean it often, wheel-face coverage may be enough. If your barrels are highly visible or you prefer deeper coverage for a longer ownership period, ask us about full wheels.

Common questions
Wheel coating FAQs
Does ceramic coating stop brake dust?
No. Your brakes still produce dust and it still lands on the wheels. Coating helps make the dust easier to remove when you wash them regularly.
Will it protect against kerb rash or stone chips?
No. Ceramic coating is a thin protective layer for the surface and easier cleaning; it is not a physical barrier against impacts, scrapes or kerb contact.
Is it better to coat wheels while the car is new?
It can be. Early coating helps preserve a cleaner starting point, although even new wheels must be inspected and properly prepared before application.
What is the difference between wheel faces and full wheels?
Wheel-face coating protects the outward-facing areas. Full wheel coating reaches inner areas, including the barrels, where access permits. Our standalone entire-wheel option also lists calipers; we confirm the exact surfaces for your vehicle when quoting.
Do Elevate and Absolute include wheel coating?
Yes. Elevate includes wheel-face protection; Absolute includes full wheel protection. Ask us to confirm the scope of the package you select and any optional areas.
Can you coat wheels that are not brand new?
Often, yes. We first assess the existing finish and contamination. Coating will not reverse existing chips, corrosion or damage, and additional preparation may be required.
